After raising approximately USD170 during a bake sale, Braeside High school joined other Eco-schools in planting a target of 20,000 tree seedlings in the Ngong Forest On the 2nd of June. Braeside was able to plant 500 tree seedlings. The event was organised in line with the World Environment Day by the Kenya Organisation for Environmental Education (KOEE) together with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Africa Network for Agro forestry Education (ANAFE) and other stakeholders. The Ngong forest is an indigenous forest located 6km from Nairobi?s City Centre. Being one of the few indigenous forests located within a city, it is vulnerable to illegal logging, encroachment and pollution. Therefore, to celebrate the World Environment Day, Eco-schools from Nairobi came together to help protect the lung of their city. It was also a day to appreciate Eco-schools for their work in caring for the environment in the award ceremony after the tree planting and also to show case art work done by students.
