[September Thematic Report] <Extreme Weather in Kyrgyzstan>

by Ademi Samakova | 29-09-2022 03:03

Kyrgyzstan is a mountainous country with a pleasant cool climate and eternal glaciers. It used to be like this. But, like the rest of the world, Kyrgyzstan is experiencing environmental problems, but we still take it lightly, although we should not.

In the future every year the temperature will rise from 1 to 4 degrees, bringing Kyrgyzstan to abnormal heat. And over the past 10 years, the number of hot days has increased by almost two weeks, and the number of tropical nights by one week, things in the capital city are much worse. Also in Kyrgyzstan, the air temperature rose by 5 degrees. This year the temperature has risen by 1.3 degrees in summer. This summer has been one of the hottest in my life. Every day, people fainted from the sun's rays. But unfortunately in the future the summer will only be hotter.

Situation in capital city

In the capital, the heat is quite abnormal. But at the same time, the government does nothing to improve the situation, but rather worsen it. There are some reasons of extreme weather in Bishkek:

  • Despite the fact that around the world there is an active planting of forests in the capital of our state, they are being cut down. Over the past 10 years, more than 15,000 trees have been cut down in Bishkek alone to build illegal buildings and widen roads.

  • The city ceased to ventilate. Illegal high-rise buildings near the mountains destroy the wind rose, preventing the wind from passing. Thus, in Bishkek, there is a smoky winter and an unbearable heat in summer. Spoil the climate in the capital and exhaust gases. According to statistics, every third person has a car. But since Kyrgyzstan is one of the developing countries, many citizens have old cars that greatly worsen the situation. Also, thermal power plants emit a lot of gases that affect the atmosphere. Greenhouse gas not only affects the climate but also health. According to the UN, 14% of all deaths are due to the ecology.

This is such a serious situation in Kyrgyzstan. Due to the fact that the government do not want to solve this problem with the environment, our young people themselves are trying to solve this problem by planting trees, making trainings, sorting waste. In the future, I believe that we will be able to improve the situation in the country and make it much better.
