Dear Green Pals,

Bee 'Ah, The Sharjah Environment company arranged a walkathon for spreading environmental awareness on the occasion of Earth Day, 2012. The event with the theme 'Mobilise the Earth' started by 4.30 pm and many people from all walks of life had gathered to participate in the Walkathon. As UAE Ambassador to Tunza Eco Generation, I got the opportunity to lead the walkathon which covered a distance of 3 km around the beautiful Sharjah Corniche. My sister and myself had prepared a brief list of basic daily actions people can follow to sustain life on Earth. After completing the walkathon, the organisers had arranged for a great evening teaching the kids various environmental issues in a very entertaining way.

Like the Environmental Snake and Ladders game where the players were given an environmental question on reaching a snake head or a ladder. Right answers to the question will enable going up the ladder or staying on the snake head. Wrong answers disabled us from climbing up the ladder or pushed you down to the tail of the snake. Another interesting game was  to segregate the waste using a tweezer and carry them to the waste bin and drop in the correct slot. The one who gathered the required recyclable materials within the least time won points.

We all ended the event by 8 pm. taking home satisfaction of having done our share to spread environmental awareness and to save the Earth.
