Burning trash; A smart solution?

by Kyi Nue Chan Myae Win | 27-09-2022 01:55

In the winter evenings and mornings in Myanmar, you can see and smell tons smokes in the streets. You might think there is fire or something, but it is actually not. In Myanmar, the people are already familiar with trash burning. There are countless times that people have to close their windows or wear masks at their own homes.

Why is Trash burning bad?
It can cause many environmental issues. The carbon dioxide emissions will directly go to the air, the rivers and the environment. This will encourage the greenhouse effect and will heat up our planet. Consequently, there will be the rise of temperature, affecting global warming too.
Moreover, they cause hazards to people health. The toxic gases are very harmful to young kids, adults and even the animals. They can damage our lungs and even cause permanent disease.

Knowing the disadvantages of trash burning, many campaigners held campaigns saying no to trash burning in previous years. Sadly, many people here are still not aware of its dangers and continue their actions.

It was time for the government to take action and provide alternative methods of disposing of wastes. However, Myanmar was taken over by the military coup in 2021 and still under the process of fighting to regain democracy and the elected government. And the military does not care about the environmental issues as they are lacking in many aspects of the country's development.
