Part of the Historical Youth Vision for the 6th World Water Forum 2012, Marseille France- Simran Vedvyas

by Simran Vedvyas | 21-03-2012 19:59

I am delighted to report about my important participation when I witnessed and was part of the key youth movements and the youth coordination team, together with-The Youth Parliament for Water, The Water Youth Movement at the 6th World Water Forum 2012, Marseille France March 2012; at the closing Youth session- What?s next and Commitments session.

I was part of the Youth Session and played key role - represented the Earth Charter International as Country Activator UAE, TUNZA Eco Generation as Regional Ambassador Middle East, Member of Emirates Environmental Group and needless to say The Millennium School, Dubai UAE.  I was the only youth representing United Arab Emirates and Dubai.

As crucial stakeholders, we YOUTH shared the responsibility and the necessity of combating the global water crisis. It impacts us all and we are all needed to implement solutions. We recognized the complex linkages between water challenges and a myriad of global governance gaps. However as young people we are not constrained by political, institutional or organizational agendas to work together to confront water issues with a holistic approach.

We called on all decision makers to hear our voice, address our concerns, and engage with us at all levels-The Youth Vision

We recognized three interrelated pillars in the process both for their impact on young people around the world, and because they are areas in which we can have a direct, observable, and lasting impact. These laid the foundations of our vision.

1. Education

2. Crossing Boundaries

3. Innovation

I participated in closing session for the Youth vision and also attended some key sessions on Arab Water issues, Water Race Event which highlights the importance of trans-boundary water relations between countries and how to deal with them.  The sessions were encouraging and result oriented.
