![]() Are you a coffee lover? Though I am not aloud to drink coffee except for some dire occasions(last minute test preparation), I am around with coffee everyday and everywhere. (Wait, Starbucks!) But, by 2020, according to climate change models, some of the most desirable regions in Latin America for growing coffee maybe too hot. To help local farmers understand how climate change will impact their lives, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters partnered with the International Center for Tropical Agriculture and Catholic Relief Services to launch the Coffee Under Pressure project, which spotlighted by the UN as part of a new database announced January 26, 2012. UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres said from the World Economic Forum in Davos, " By showcasing private sector adaptation success stories, we intend to help both communities and how businesses from around the world, including GE, Bayer, Cisco, Intel, Levi Strauss and John Deere, are working to reduce related risks and seize potential opportunities in a world with green house gas emission growth that shows no sign of slowing". In Korea, still the cooperation between local communities and business firms in terms of resolving environment related matters are a rarity. In UN case studies on the website show the successful examples of the co-working between firms and communities. I hope, not for short-term marketing purpose, but for win-win relation for the future, Korean firms will consider participating UN climate adaptation projects. |
