The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Philippines is aiming to plant seedlings in 200,000 hectares of protected areas like watersheds around the 18 major river basins. This a reforestation program to "better stabilize slopes and avert flashfloods" They decided on this because of the damage and the deaths that happened after the Typhoon Sendong when it hit parts of southern Philippines and illegal logs came rushing down the mountains with the flashfloods .
