Demand for healthy foods-exploitation of animals and plants

by | 24-01-2012 01:12

Many of you will know that  China is a country that eats literally everything.  And that is quite true. Since ancient times, Chinese people had used diverse animals and plants as food ingredients. They have all sorts of old medical books that instruct people about what to eat to become healthy, what to eat in order to beautify the skin...and many more. And because the Chinese people are getting wealthier day by day, more and more of them came to focus on their health and diet.

As a result, the demand for ingredients of health food and medicine (precious plants and animals-for example, snakes, bears, turtles and crocodiles..etc) has risen substantially. Below, the first two pictures are sea horses and insects displayed in a Chinese traditional medical shop, and the third picture is a crocodile ready to be cooked in a Chinese restaurant.

Well, China is a big country. I mean, really big. So the demand is far too great. Although the government has put a ban in using endangered wild animals in food and medicine, illegal wildlife trading still thrives, and China's wildlife is being put in bigger peril.
