How can we prepare an alarming population outlook and preserve environment?by | 02-01-2012 13:31 |

![]() The United Nations projected that the world?s population would hit 10.1 billion by the year 2100. If the population growth sustains, many problems would occur. To be more specific about population growth, I look into Africa. In Africa, the population rose to 3.6 billion from 1 billion. The causes for this phenomenon are various. First, treatment with new drug regimens appeared, which has reduced the death rate. The survival of people has led to faster population growth. Second, traditions like early marriage and polygamy caused sharp increases in population. Third, African women don?t have much autonomy. However, there was a research that only when woman had greater autonomy to use contraceptives, they had fewer children. At the summit of G-7, G-20, etc., global warming has occupied a top position in agenda. However, this issue is not expected to be easily resolved. Why? I strongly believe that without check on rising population growth, accelerating global warming cannot be stopped. Without proper restraint on increasing population growth, water resources in the global village must be inevitable. The conflicts of the Hutu tribe and the Tucci tribe in Rwanda came from water resources scarcity. As of 2011, the Chinese industrial belt required an enormous amount of water, so that the Chinese government has built the biggest dam ?Three Gorges? and converted water channel. As a result, the West Sea has become polluted and changed into a dead sea. In addition, whenever an earthquake happens, a lot of people claim their lives. Compared to ancient times, why are so many casualties made? That?s why a growing population came to live in earthquake affected areas, including urban areas. In addition, a growing population must unavoidably release more greenhouse gases into the air, so that the earth must get warmer. As a result, unstable earth causes more natural disasters. Due to the frequent natural disasters, there would be a lack of food. If there is no food, people would try to take other people?s food. Eventually, there would be war. When war occurs, poor sanitation and diseases will break out, so that genocides like the Rwandan genocide would claim many lives. Even at this moment, many lives are seeking for water and trees. Deforestation is speeding up desertification. Desertification is making more people seek for residence in urban areas. Like this, there would be many problems if the population increases. To resolve these problems, I suggest some solutions. First, like industrialized economies, a variety of family planning programs must be strongly adopted and carried out. Also, we could provide information about birth control and help women to obtain proper education, which could make woman choose to have fewer children. Moreover, when we drop the illiteracy rate, population growth could decrease. This is because there was a research that literate young women are more likely to understand that the family size is a choice. So, if we educate more people, the global population must clearly be stabilized. The earth of 2012 can barely house the world population. In 2050, the earth is expected not to be able to house global population. To reiterate my argument, continuous education for people is urgently needed at this moment and in the future. I firmly believe that through this, curtailing population can be successful. |
