Our past president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam has celebrated his 80th birthday on October 2011 with a large number of children at Coimbatore by planting saplings in order to inaugurate ?Kalam Vanam? , that function was arranged by Siruthuli,  an organization in Coimbatore. He planted the Jambu(Naval maram in Tamil) saplings, which is obtain from the seeds of fruits, that fruits were obtained from the jambu tree which was planted by our Father Of Nation ?Mahatma Gandhi? while he came to Coimbatore on 1934, February 7.

PLANT DESCRIPTION
A medium sized tree grows up to 30 meters in height. Leaves simple, opposite, ovate, acuminate, gland dotted, smooth; flowers greenish white, in trichotomous panicles; fruits oblong, dark purple when ripe, contain single seeds.    
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES
Plant pacifies vitiated vata, pitta, diarrhea, diabetes, leucorrhoea, fever, skin diseases and general debility.
