![]() Cultural camp is a five days Teens & Kids program that targets the teens & Kids , with the aim of igniting purpose at an early stage. The camp it provide an opportunity to increase commitment to young people, to promote teens & Kids participation and enhance inter-cultural dialogue and understanding as a way of promoting peace, respect for human rights and solidarity across generations, culture, religions and civilizations. ... Roots & Shoots take action all over the world, wherever people come together with a common desire to make a difference- classrooms, home schools, nature center, zoos, scout troops and beyond. Young people connect with one another, share ideas and inspiration and implement successful community service projects. Roots & Shoots-Kenya has been actively engaged in young people development through its part teens and youth program with an aim to equip the youth with knowledge and skills to enable them take an active role in the welfare of their communities. Overall Camp Goals The camp aims at providing teens and Kids an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas, best practices, cultural experiences, talents and skills, to build a strong and secure future for them. Overall Objective To bring young people together and equip them with skills and knowledge to enable them take an active role in the welfare of their communities as well as create a forum for them to engage in dialogue. Specific Objectives 1. Create opportunity for teens to share experience including the challenges and problems faced by teens in different countries and strategies for tackling the issues. 2. Engaged with the local community the Maasai through community service 3. Equip teens with relevant skills, knowledge and promote positive attitude and behavior change through training and skills building. 4. Engage teens in community service as strategy to promote Social Responsibility. Proposed Date and Venue for the Camp Teens Culture Camp is scheduled to take place from 5th-9th December 2011 in Maasai Mara South (Lemek Conservancy) at Koiyaki. Which a co-operative owned by local Maasai community. Maasai Mara South is popular for tourist destination.Maasai Mara River is are the nearby attractions which is the seventh wonders of the world: the world?s biggest land migration passes the very great wildebeest & zebra in search of grazing across the plain and rivers under the eyes of various lion and crocodiles. It is also home for elephants, eland, giraffe & impalas along the route. Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino are the typical Big 5 that are found. Proposed Planning and Management of the Camp The planning and management of this camp falls under Roots & Shoots-Kenya under the Supervision of Kids in Kenya Foundation and the Youth Development Officer and the National Youth Committee. There will be a steering committee as well as the National Youth Board who shall oversee the planning process for the camp. Participants Participants will include teens from the Maasia communities and the Partner organizations within Kenya. Participant should be in good health and be willing to participate in both indoor and outdoor activities Camp Activities Part of the activities lined for the camp range from discussion on topical issues affecting the youth such as role of teens in enhancing dialogue in their communities, community service, teambuilding activities, cultural evening and among others. The camp activities will be divided into two phases i.e. workshop and team activities both outdoor and indoor. The sessions will be handled by both internal and external facilitators.
