The state of Illinois is the fifth most populous state of the United States; however, in March 2011, Illinois ranked as the bottom seven worst in the American State litter scorecard, and have faced serious environmental issues. The on-going statewide issues are:

6. Advancing the market for the electric cars

7. Protecting Lake Michigan
