2 tons Elephant's Ivory seized in HK A large shipment of African Elephant's tusk has been seized by the Hong Kong customs officers. The ivory was hidden in a container that arrived from Malaysia by sea. 794 pieces Ivory tusk worth about $1.6 million was found by them. The container was labelled "nonferrous products for factory use" and was hidden by stones. Officials are still investigating for the origin of the container while a 66 year old man was arrested. The container seemed was targeted to be sent to mainland China where ivory is often used as traditional medicine. Since 1989, more than 17 tons of elephant ivory has been seized by authorities in Hong Kong. |
