![]() Indonesia - How do you feel knowing your country become the 1st position? Happy? Proud? Sure it will.. But if it stands for the 1st dirtiest country in the world, will you still be happy? NO, of course!! In 2005, WHO stated Indonesia as the top dirtiest country. Stacks of waste are everywhere. Diseases are spread, and disasters happen. That's why Vania Santoso made a research looking for the main source of waste to find the best solution. The fact is 58% waste comes from houses. Therefore Vania tries to socialize "home-waste management first hand at home" to increase people's awareness in reducing waste. By separating organic waste from the non-organic one, Vania teaches people to process it to be useful things. The organic waste is processed to be non-chemical fertilizer to grow plants with better quality, while the organic one is processed to be recycled souvenirs. This project brings a great impact to the environment as it can reduce waste 15% per day. Besides, people can get 2 tons compost and side income through the selling of recycled souvenirs approximately US800 per month. Such a big amount, right? Since this project is easy to apply but brings great improvement, Vania tries to make this project world wide by joining International Environmental Volvo Adventure Competition - in partnership with UNEP. Through the Bright Youngsters Team of AV Peduli, Vania works out with her friends to spread out the message then finally she becomes the 1st Prize Winner for that competition. "... So we can show to this world, that Indonesia is not bad again." Vania said with a fully happy tears being the winner. |
