![]() Hey guys, today I want to write about agriculture because I recently read a report on it. Agriculture is a sector that garners much attention due to its close relation with climate change. Now, naturally, I assumed that there would be only negative affects, but in the report it stated some positive ones such as enhanced photosynthesis(althought the evidence is still inconclusive). However, the negative affects are more impendent and devastating. "Recent research work (Long et al. 2006) demonstrated that the crop yield stimulation by rising CO2 concentrations will be much lower than previously expected via model simulation." Also, climate change will alter the balance in ecosystems, possibly threatening species less favoured by the changed conditions. And also because water shortage issues will be multiplied, the excess heat will ten to shorten the growing season at low latitudes. Therefore, the impact on employment could be significant in those regions. I remember reading from a Tunza magazine that by 2050, the United States's Grain Belt might suffer from heavy drought and the rice it produces from that region feeds more than 100 countries! Ah...even in Korea, the land suitable for growing apples is diminishing year by year.... Thus, if you love apples, all the more incentive to fight climate change!! |
