![]() At the same time people are making an every day effort to fight environmental crimes, there are those who perpetrate them. I've made a list of some of the most recent notorious industries which have unconscientiously turned a profit at the expense of the environment its occupants.
BP Self-explanatory almost what with the catastrophic Deepwater Horizon oil spill last year, but to go on in details.... - April 20, 2010, deep sea drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, belonging to the British energy giant BP, exploded in Gulf of Mexico. -> Eleven people died -> Leak sealed 87 days later -> At least 800 million liters (over 211 million gallons) of oil released into sea -> entire food chain in region in danger & will be affected for decades -> clouds of oil and gas driven underwater will kill off huge areas of the ocean -> Fisheries, land- and water-based animals, and tourism will be endangered for decades - BP continues to expand dangerous mining techniques -Investing in dirtiest oil in world, derived from Canadian tar sands -> indigenous communities call oil from tar sands ?bloody oil.? -> Cancer rates in the communities soared in recent years due to oil-related poisoning. - Practices aggressive global lobbying for weaker CO2 and climate protection laws, as well as for lower oil production safety standards Source: Greepeace |
