Handkerchief Campaign

by | 23-08-2011 19:57

(This is an old post, posted in ecogeneration.org on 04/18/2010)

On March 28th, in Myeongdong , one of Seoul's main shopping districts,

the youth campaign committee sponsored by the "Korean Federation for Environmental Movement" had our first campaign to promote the use of handkerchiefs in our daily lives.

First of all, we announced a  proclaimation on the benefis of using a handkercheif and how we were going to endorse its use in daily life.

Then we had a little skit where our huge earth poster got attacked by the hand dryer and paper towel that flanked its side.

Then came the individual speeches.

And last, we all shouted out each of our phrases on the pickets we made.

To learn more about the deleterious effects of paper towels and electronic hand dryers on our ecosystem and the environmental benefits of handkerchiefs, check our the newspaper clip I wrote just before this one.

Anyway, we had our campaign in the middle of Myungdong, Seoul and we even attracted the interests of a couple of reporters, so there were articles about us in 4 different internet newspaper sites(??????, ????, ???, ????).

We'll be having our next campaign in June and we're hoping to do it somewhere else this time. Somewhere where there will more people to attract and from different age groups too. Most of the people at Myeongdong seemed like tourists from foreign countries, so I doubt they could understand what we were saying, thus the lack of support and interest.

Well, wish us luck on our next campaign.
