Representative environmental issues of Greenland (1)- ice melting.by | 31-07-2011 22:36 |

Everyone knows , there are many serious ice melting spots around the world. Greenland , obviously, is not the exception. Konrad Steffen of the University of Colorado, Boulder, drew a grim picture of Greenland's recent status, describing the amount of ice lost over the past year as twice as all the ice in the Alps or a layer of water. As we can guess, ice melting is mainly due to rising temperature. The average of earth temperature keeps gradually rising. Statistically, at the 1960's, the average temperature is about 13.9? , at 1980's it is 14.2? and at 2000's it recorded 14.4?. It seems very subtle change but '0.1?' gives much bigger change to environment surrounding us more than its number. What's more, ice melting is like a accelerating car which means the rate of it will become drastic. Some scientists says earth temperature is going to rise 3? in 2030. Then what comes after this ice melting? First, desertification conquers stifling regions. Second, rare diseases , microorganism and influenza will break out. Thirdly, natural disasters like earthquake, tornado, downpour and heavy snow which we can see very often these days.
