In this article I would like to introduce several ecological parks of Nakdong river. The river flows through Gumi city and into the front sea of Busan. As the Nakdong river is one of few rivers with alluvial islands, there are couple of ecological parks that focus mainly on them. Alluvial islands are islands in the middle of the mouth of a river, created by accumulated soil. They are important to the environment because they contribute to purifying the river. However they may also become dangerous when there is heavy rain, for they trigger more floods.

Nakdong Estuary Environmental and Ecological Learning System is serving as an ecological park that include activities: educating about Nakdong river history and Nakdong estuary, experiencing Eulsukdo.  It explains about the origin and source from which the river comes from, how people have developed culture living close to the river, and how the sand-bank has shifted from past. It also features about several islands and various organisms living there.

Another ecological park of Nakdong river is Nakdong Estuary eco center. It holds meetings in which people can actually experience various activities. Also there are lots of sources of information about ecological lives in the river.

Although the locations of two centers are not in Gumi city, it is closely related, for the river flows through the city. As Gumi city is specialized in industrial factories it is very crucial to acknowledge the importance of preserving the river and protecting it. Learning about the river may be a big step forward what we all try to reach, green and environmentally friendly life.
