In this article I would like to cover ecological parks in Geumo Mountain. Geumo Mountain is famous for being favorable hiking place, but also for the location of the start of the nature preservation campaign in Korea. As an environmental ambassador of Gumi city I am most proud of this fact. Other famous sites are: Doesan cave, Daehye waterfall, Haeun Buddhist temple, Yaksa temple, Ma Ae Cliff Buddha.

           One great feature of Geumo mountain is that even though the amount of water is not abundant during normal times, it hardly dries. There used to be lots of wells and spring waters in the mountain villages that sometimes in the dry season people living on mountain had less worries concerning water supply problem than people living outside.

           Various organisms reside in the provincial park. There are over 370 kinds of vegetation, 242 kinds of insects, 65 kinds of birds, 20 kinds of mammals, 16 kinds of amphibian/reptiles, only identified so far.

           The provincial park provides lots of experiences and activities. Environmental education is provided in in-service training institute, families can rent a Korean traditional house, or sleep in tents on the camping ground, take a rest in the middle of woods away from tiring schedules of normal life, have a nice meeting with people in the square with lots of fountains in which children may go in and have fun, ride cable cars and watch the beautiful sights, ride duck-looking boats in a reservoir. Also the park serves as a religious place for people residing near.

           These are just summarized explanations of Geumo mountain provincial park. Just allowing us to be able to rest in the woods, breathe in fresh air, and get away from all the stress we get from city life, and most of all, allowing us to meet with ?nature? is the best service that the park provides.
