![]() For the past three weeks, the United States was tortured by the murderous mid-summer sun. At first, temperatures reaching the high nineties continued to torment those under the sky. Then, in mid-July record temperatures were shattered as the mercury hit the triple-digits. A massive heat bubble descended across almost the entire country, bringing intense heat and stagnant air. To make matters worse, the hot, humid air from the Gulf of Mexico entered the heat bubble, bringing with it insane humidity. Finally, the cool, fast-moving air of the jetstream moved towards Northern Canada. After the weather gradually worsened, two weeks of triple-digit temperatures completely sapped the country of all of its energy and water. As a result, sixty-four people were killed by the relentless heat wave. Such temperatures are the result of global warming. As more greenhouse gases accumulate in the Earth's atmosphere, the heat waves from the sun cannot exit the Earth's atmosphere and stays inside. Thus, the average global temperatures gradually increases every year. |
