Problems in the Malaysian Forests

by | 29-07-2011 17:52

Deforestation has been the most threatening crime done by we humans to the enironment. From ages ago to time till now, there may not have been a day when a tree has not been cut down. Almost nowhere in the whole world, we can find deforestation being completely halted.

Technology has also been boon for us in some way although it has some impacts on the environment. Recently, a site titled Mongabay.com has revealed that a huge part of forest has been cleared in Sarawak, the Malaysian region of Borneo.

Officials claims that 70% of the forest cover has been totally preserved. But the images from Google Earth has made people estimate that 90% of its primary forest cover has been logged. The Chief Minister of Sarawak, Taib, has invited independent observers to study the situation and has also claimed that only 14% of the forest has been converted to timber plantation.
