Sushi, a nice dish, is one of the favourite dish of people of all around the world. Bluefin tuna is also an ingredient of Sushi. The bluefin tuna has escaped the list of endangered species and is now listed as "species of concern. The Center for Biological Diversity seeked an endangered status for the fish, as the species might faces possible extinction due to overfishing and habitat degradation, and as an effect of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Upon the request, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration conducted an extensive scientific review and announced that bluefin tuna does not warrant protection under the Endangered Species Act. The NOAA officials also stated that there will be high concerns about the fish, which can swim at speeds faster than 50 mph and grow to more than half a ton in size even though it is not listed as endangered or threatened. In the past 40 years, tuna populations have fallen about 80 percent. Listing the bluefin as endangered had jeopardized the livelihood of tuna fisherman. Now when it is not in the list, there may be more blue fins in the net. The U.S. accounts for about 5 percent of the global bluefin harvest, with more than half the catch being exported. Most of the catch goes to Japan, where a single large fish can sell for tens of thousands of dollars. We all still can avoid sushi and tuna to help preserve Bluefin from our side.
