World to lose 230 mn-hectares forest area by 2050 Deforestation simply means clearance of forests. There are causes of deforestation are logging, overpopulation, urbanization, dam construction etc. Forest fires are other cause of forest being lost. These Fires are mostly started by lightning which is spread by strong wood and dry bushes. It causes a huge loss of timber, economically and environmentally, costs life of hundreds of biodiversity. Since the 980s the rate of deforestation has increased. According to estimation of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, deforestation rates have accelerated during the 1990s translating to 10.14 million hectares of denuded forests from 1990-2000 and to 10.4 million hectares in the period of 2000-2005. WWF recently stated that the world stands to lose 230 million hectares of forest with consequences to climate, biodiversity and the global economy. The size of forest being cleared world wide every minute is equals the size of 35 football fields. Till 2050, if same rate continues the size of forest lost will be equals the size of an area 27 times as big as Austria. So, think before you tear a paper, think before you break a chair that you will contribute to destruction of mankind. We need the forest for our own good.
