Celebration of Earth Hour in Nepal

by | 29-07-2011 17:50

Every year in the 26th of March, Earth Hour is celebrated for an hour. In this time period, all the electrical appliances are switched off inclusing the lights.

Earth Hour was celebrated in Kathmandu (capital city of Nepal) in the amazing abstract of 1000 butter lamps, music and air-filled balloons. Youths were the active participant of the event.

Not only in Kathmandu but at the same time in Lumbini (birthplace of Gautam Buddha) Eath Hour was celebrated. The Lumbini Development Trust also announced to plant 108,000 saplings and announcing Lumbini as plastic free and non-smoking zone and switching towards energy efficient lights in all monastries and garden.

Although we celebrated Earth Hour and got many inspiring commitments from government, we all want them to bring everything in action. Nepal is now facing power cut of 14 hours. So we celebrate 14 hours power cut every day and every is like Earth Hours for us. Despite that too, we all came together and we switched off all the electrical appliances to support the Earth Hour.
