Mongolian Ambassador May article - 1

One of most serious environmental problem, Desertification, is currently occurring in Mongolia. As I mentioned in the previous article, desertification is caused by land pollution, too much graze, and air pollution. But the process of each causes various according to each cause.

First, desertification caused by land pollution starts with the pollution of soil. Trash, cattle?s manure, corpse and other wastes cause soil to pollute. As the soil gets polluted, it looses it?s moisture or looses its ability to sustain moisture from dissipitate. As the time flows, larger and larger acres of soil lost moisture and thus turn in to dry lands. We all know that plants are hard to grow in dry land so desertification occurs.

Second, too much graze can cause desertification in such process. When cattle, such as horse, cow or camel, eat up too many pastors, that is, its devouring speed exceeds pastor?s rehabilitating speed, plants gradually extinct. As more and more pastor loses its plant, they become dry land and thus, assist the desertification.

Third, Air pollution can create a thick cloud of wall over the green field. This wall of cloud blocks sunray from the field, and thus, plants don?t get enough nutrient from the ray. As this vicious cycle continues, desertification accelerates..

These were the process of desertification, mostly in Mongolia. I hope such process should be prevented at whatever cause.
