Coral Reefs are the homes of the almost fifty percent of the Earth?s species. There are more than one hundred thousand species of coral alone. There are numerous chemical substances that humans can cultivate from these massive aquatic farmlands that humans can use to their advantage, including curing diseases and creating new substances with spectacular physical characteristics. Unfortunately, we humans are destroying these precious organic metropolises. At first sight, these sprawling masses of amorphous creatures will probably outgrow the pace we are destroying them. However, coral reefs are not the same as plants. Harmful toxins do not travel slowly through the soil. Instead, the toxins flow freely in the warm water, killing thousands of coral without hesitation. When we kill coral reefs, we are also killing hundreds of other small fish species that are exotic and special. We must protect these creatures and coral reefs by making sure that we do not litter in the ocean and make sure that conditions are fight for the organisms to survive. |
