July 16, 2011 - Secretary Armin Luistro of the Philippine Department of Education urged all public and private schools to strengthen environmental education. Schools have to include environmental concerns in all learning areas like the classroom and in extra-curricular activities.  The Department Secretary also urged schools administrators and teachers to  use various kinds of instructional materials that will make the students aware of the environmental issues and will encourage them to protect the environment. The teachers are also advised to attend workshops, conferences and seminars on environmental education. Secretary Luistro also ordered the establishment of Youth for Environment clubs in all elementary and high schools.
