The Chilean government has been under attack from civilians all over the country, especially the Southern part, or Patagonia. They are against the HidroAysen project, a multi-billion dollar project that will place a enormous dam right in the middle of the beautiful scenery of native Patagonia. If the dam were to be built there are many advantages and disadvantages.

The advantages are that it alone will produce almost 40 % of the nation?s power consumption every year. Unfortunately, the disadvantages of the construction of the dam is that it will create a massive reservoir and submerge numerous national parks and precious forests and valleys.

Sadly, the decision was made for the construction. However, protestors are aiming to stop the construction of the 6000 mile long pipeline that delivers the electricity in and out of the facility. Currently, raging firefights and battles between police and civilians are still raging in the streets of Chile for weeks.
