Globe and Smart Unite for Clean Air

by Azores Bam | 14-06-2011 10:11

Telecommunications giants Globe and SMART partner with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for the Text Brigade Campaign under the Philippines¢¯ Ligtas Hangin (CLEAN AIR) Program.

Mobile sources (that¢¯s buses, cars) remain the number one air pollution source in the country. Now this Text Brigade Campaign gives us the power to report smoke-belching vehicles we see. If All we need to do is text, and the report will be automatically forwarded to the Central Station at the DENR, which will then be forwarded to the stations along EDSA (main street in Metro Manila) who would apprehend, right on-the-spot, the vehicle you would have reported.

Globe, through it¢¯s Green Line, already released the dedicated number for this campaign. Concerned individuals can report smoke belching vehicles by typing USOK(space) and send it to 2327. The facility is open to subscribers of all mobile phone operators in the country and will be operational beginning Feb. 11 for a minimal charge of P1 per text.

The Ligtas Hangin Program is a national movement for cleaner air by the DENR, MMDA, LTO, Clean Air Asia, Partnership for Clean Air with many other private and non-government organizations.
