Thematic Report- Evolving Generation Foundation contribution to the environment

by Adetomiwa Sijuade | 31-08-2022 07:33

Evolving Generation Foundation ¡°Evolving Gen¡± is an NGO incorporated under the Virginia State Corporation Commission with a mission to protect the planet, it is on the front line in the fight against pollution, deforestation and food waste.
Egen Foundation mission is to build a future where humans and nature coexist in harmony. Egen achieve that by leveraging educational tools to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth. Thus, reducing humanity¡¯s environmental footprint and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources to support current and future generations.

Some of Egen Foundation works include the following:

Combat Against Pollution:
Air, land, and water pollution caused about 90 million premature deaths in the last decades, or 16% of all deaths worldwide. About 92% of all pollution-related mortality is seen in low-income and middle-income countries, with the poor, marginalized, and young hardest hit by the health effects of the contamination.

EvolvingGen is committed to support countries most severely impacted by pollution by providing technical assistance on pollution management, facilitating knowledge generation and sharing, and raising awareness about the detrimental impact on global health.

Combat Against Deforestation:
The world¡¯s forests are our last line of defence in mitigating climate change, stopping the extinction of wildlife and helping prevent the next pandemic. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the world¡¯s forest cover has declined by almost 10 percent since 1990. This loss is due to several factors, including the expansion of agriculture, logging, and urbanization.

Given the wealth of information that the foundation holds, the foundation is placing itself to look at the connections between the illegal wildlife trade, illegal logging and deforestation to promote effective policy and enforcement responses.

Combat Against Food Waste:
Currently, at least one-third of all food produced worldwide is wasted. When food is wasted, all the energy and resources used to create that food are wasted too. This is a huge problem for people and the planet. To make matters worse, if that food ends up in landfills it produces methane – a greenhouse gas up to 86 times stronger than carbon dioxide.

The evidence is becoming too hard to ignore. Food systems reform is critical to tackling the planetary crisis of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss and pollution and waste.
