Examining 5 Apps That Teach Green Living

by Paisley Hansen | 30-08-2022 02:56

According to NOAA, the combined temperature of the earth's land and water has been steadily increasing since 1980. According to NOAA data, 2021 was the sixth-warmest year on record. five minutes in front of a national or world news weather report will likely convince you that these startling changes are continuing to trend in the wrong direction.

Transitioning to green living is certainly a commitment, but once you get there you might find that it's easier than you think. These days there are lots of apps that help people to learn about and practice living green. Here is a list of five of the most popular Green Living apps and their details:

1. Olio

Though Olio doesn't employ low code, it is just as innovative and powerful in its own right. Olio combines social networking with the need to cut down on purchasing things and on waste. Running off of the simple concept of sharing, this app puts community members in touch with one another with the aim that the food in one kitchen might end up in another before it goes to waste. Users simply snap a picture of the item they want to share and post it to the app, at which point any neighbors on Olio will get an alert.

On the other hand, besides simply posting items that they are putting out there for sharing, users can browse other users' posts, where they might find anything from cleaning products to gently-worn clothes to other miscellaneous items. The Olio app is available for iOS and Android.

2. Ecosia

The Ecosia extension for Chrome is a green alternative search engine that uses the profits that it makes, which are from advertising, to plant trees. Every time you log on and search, you are actively involving yourself in the fight to halt and repair climate change. Today, the search engine has financed the planting and protection of over six million trees.

Ecosia works around the planet and publishes monthly financial reports to promote transparency and accountability. You can download a mobile version of the extension as an app for iOS and Android.

3. Too Good to Go

This app connects people who need food with entities that have overstock and don't want it to go to waste. Supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and other food-oriented businesses offer leftover food at a reduced cost. At once, people are saving money while meeting their nutritional needs, while food waste diminishes. Further, this sort of action is not only green but it's a true community bonding agent. The app can be downloaded on iOS and Android.

4. Happy Cow

Happy Cow is an app that helps users to identify vegan and vegetarian restaurants, cafes and grocery stores around the world. It currently actively reports on vegan food service in 185 countries, which means that with over 156,000 vegan vendors on board, it's probably got you covered.

Vegan means eschewing milk and dairy products. Research shows that dairy products produce three times the amount of greenhouse gasses as plant milk and require more land to produce. Happy Cow is available for iOS and Android.

5. Think Dirty

This app leads users to eco-friendly cosmetic and beauty products. It also provides users with information about the potentially toxic ingredients in the personal care products that they're considering, so that they can make comparisons while they're shopping. This app uses its Dirty Meter to evaluate products, taking into consideration ingredients, certifications and health impacts. Think Dirty is available for iOS and Android.

Green living should be on everybody's mind because scientists around the world have declared that unless human behavior changes, the planet and atmosphere will continue to get worse. Using apps to help facilitate the changes that need to be made makes it easier to be part of the solution.
