CSR in South Korea

by Cheha Paik | 30-08-2022 18:12

CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is a management concept where companies self-regulate and aim to contribute to societal goals which are about what the company pursues. What is it like in South Korea?

South Korea made a significant effort to encourage CSR activities and positively impacted corporate performance in South Korea over a period of four years. These impacts were mostly financially based. With firms on the rise, CSR has received much attention and of 200 corporations in South Korea, more than 86% promote CSR activities and 97% in total came to a realization that they need to incorporate CSR activities. Thus, CSR is considered an essential method for business sustainability.

By measuring CP (Corporate performance) by CSR, understanding the effects of CSR, and using case studies to examine Korea¡¯s recent CSR activities, many conclusions of how CSR does or does not make an impact are made. However, it is most positively leaned towards the positive impacts of CSR on CP although being contradictory.

All in all, CSR is heavily encouraged in South Korea. However, not many people believe that it has a positive impact. Case studies shown have found many positives to CSR on CP, however due to many limitations, this needs further research.
