Transportation Management

Have you always been interested in the trucking or airline industries? Did you know that you can work in them without actually providing transportation, which means that you can be home with your family? Transportation managers are responsible for a variety of tasks, the most important being organizing drivers' schedules using a transportation management system. Other duties and responsibilities include following up on routine assignments, managing the end-of-day check-in process, and conducting investigations as needed. People who work within the industry can make up to $200,000 annually or more with the right knowledge and experience.

Sales Management

Sales management is another excellent job that will allow you to be home with your family often. In fact, many sales managers can work remotely at least part of the time. Sales managers are responsible for many different types of duties, and many of them require the use of a customer data platform. Tasks include overseeing local and regional sales promotions, hiring and training new sales representatives, and preparing sales budgets. Some managers may also be the "face" of the organization, develop and maintain relationships with big clients, and identify emerging markets to find new opportunities. The right sales manager will have excellent communication skills, strong analytical skills, and good leadership skills. The average sales manager makes just under $76,000 annually.

Childcare

You can't get much more family-friendly than working in childcare. Whether you run an in-home daycare or work at an established one, you can expect to spend your days creating a safe and fun environment for children ranging from newborn age to preteen ages. This may include changing diapers and clothes as needed, creating interactive games and lesson plans for school-age children, and preparing meals and snacks throughout the day. Other duties include keeping records of children's progress and maintaining contact with their parents. Good childcare workers are patient, compassionate, and don't mind a little chaos (or a lot). Beneficial skills include being bilingual, being certified in CPR and first aid, and being able to multitask. The average childcare worker in the U.S. makes just under $12 an hour.

Teaching

If you still want to work with children but want to make more money, consider becoming a teacher. Teachers take on many of the same duties as childcare workers. You'll need to come up with lesson plans, you may spend your day preparing meals and snacks, and being able to multitask is essential. However, one major benefit is that you'll likely never need to change a diaper if you are a teacher. Other tasks include grading assignments, managing students during recess, field trips, or other activities, and meeting and working with parents and other teachers as needed. The right teacher will be patient and able to communicate with students in ways that they will understand. Creativity and physical and mental stamina are also important. Kids are fast-paced, which makes working as a teacher fast-paced as well. Creativity is always important as well. The average teacher of elementary-age students earns just more than $19.00 per hour. 

When you have small children at home, the last thing you want to do is work a job that keeps you away from them more than it keeps you with them. By working some of these family-friendly careers, your evenings and weekends will be free to spend time with your family.
