It¡¯s time for world leaders to stop solving wars and start solving the global environmental issues – Decoding COP26

by Vani Miglani | 16-08-2022 01:04

It is utmost important that each country identifies, understands, and solves the climate crisis of each nation (specifically of the developing and under developed nations) so as to perform the best under the constraints of the global political reality.

The COP26 meeting held in Glasgow Scotland gave a very powerful statement to keep the warming at 1.5 degrees. COP26 in Glasgow was the world's last chance opportunity to curtail the existential impacts of the warming planet.

The rhetoric is already far bigger — John Kerry, the U.S. envoy for climate change, called what¡¯s known as COP26 ¡°the last best hope,¡± for humanity — than anything leaders can deliver.

In my opinion there should be no delay in such decisions and such bold commitments were required by the countries to curb the climate change. It is important to identify and understand the politics as well as the economic reality of each nation. The deliberation here occurs when we acknowledge the fact that countries who are least polluters are the worst victims of climate change and they have to meet the needs of billions of people who lack basic modern energy and services. Developed countries who have finances, technology and resources need to cut down on the carbon emissions without any delay and finance the lesser polluters countries with finances and technology to move towards reducing the use of coal and move towards using renewable energy.

So, would the target be achievable for them?

The governments that signed the Paris Agreement in 2015 are still due to deliver on promises made and each year the carbon emissions are being raised.
