How can students play an important role in building the environment?

by Vani Miglani | 16-08-2022 01:41

The environment is not just the natural environment, but also the built environment. Today, the concept of eco-campus or ¡®green campus¡¯ is another way of inculcating responsibility towards the planet in young learners so that take pride in fulfilling their responsibilities as global citizens and keep their surroundings clean.

Some basic, yet significant steps to build your college campus into an eco-friendly one are as follows:

1.  Setting forth a green campus vision statement with a step-wise action plan.

2.   Organizing campaigns like sapling planation drives around the campus to take a step forward towards building a sustainable, eco-friendly environment.

3.  Conducting student assemblies and contests aimed at generating awareness about various environmental problems and their possible solutions

4. Learning to reduce their carbon footprint by adopting a minimalist lifestyle.

5.  Assessing daily operations in terms of pollution prevention, waste management, and energy efficiency by reducing, reusing, recycling, whenever possible.

Not only does an eco-campus reduce costs in college, but it also provides students with a practical experience in leadership and dealing with systems, departments, regulations etc. It makes life on campus better, cleaner and healthier for all.

The most quintessential aspect of an eco-conscious campus is in encouraging student to live in harmony with all living beings, plants, and animal within the campus and around it. This promotes perception of the campus as not only a physical structure but also as a community that encapsulates in miniature the characteristics of the world outside.
