The Lake's Cry: Help my water.

by Vivian Nabisere | 15-08-2022 07:05

Help my water.

Don¡¯t drink my water:
She is bearing heavy metals and toxins,
That she gets from raw agro based industrial outflow,
That could kill a baby in your womb,
That are draining the fish she contains.

Don¡¯t cook with my water:
Like blood moving from veins to the heart;
In her gathers rain water from surrounding tilled shores,
Carrying with it the fertilizers and dung from the earth:
That, like cruel intruders, suffocate and break nature in me,
That may harm you if taken in.
Even the trees of the land, that could, can no longer stop this;
They are gone; chopped and burnt down.

Help my water:
She withers away,
Under man¡¯s cultivation and deforestation,
Gone is the charm that had pulled multitudes to her in the olden days,
That had inspired cries of awe at how fresh an ocean I was:
She¡¯s dyed to dark rotting shades of green and brown,
Of algae and decay,
That symbolize,
The start of the cascade to my demise.

This poem is a call  from all water bodies to the human kind about the danger of consuming polluted water and to further advocate for conservation.
