[Thematic Report for August] Social Contribution of LG Electronics

by Seojin Lee | 15-08-2022 12:22

There are numerous companies that exist today all over Asia-so many that it is quite impossible to keep an eye on every one of them constantly. While most of the time companies are often respected and praised for successful products, it is also true that the public often criticizes them for their lack of social contributions.

For instance, companies that require multiple factories are often considered to be against eco-friendly practices, as faculties could be a great part of the production of fossil fuel. However, it is important to note that this is not always the case; in fact, there are a great number of companies that strive to give back to the public.

One such example is LG electronics, one of the most influential companies in South Korea, Asia. A notable social contribution the company partook in was in 2021 regarding a clothing drive. By organizing a multi-city road trip, LG ensured that unwanted clothes did not go to waste. Instead, the large clothing drive was initiated in order to encourage the public to not only reflect on the problem with clothing waste but also focus on the importance of recycling.

Throughout the process, LG made sure that the recycling and upcycling process of the clothes was clear and also declared that all the clothes collected would be 100% recycled. Such a project is certainly meaningful and impactful, for the clothing drive not only reduces waste but also raises awareness for important issues like recycling.

Even better, when the clothing drive project was successful, LG decided to continue with a second drive a few months later. Throughout each stop, LG also made sure that the public was informed with knowledge about how to reduce clothing waste and highlight the beauty of vintage clothes. Certainly, social contributions like such are a great example of giving back to the public and the environment.
