by ALOK DHAKAL | 12-08-2022 02:13

28th Ambassadorship, Month 6, Report 1
Month: August
Thematic report
Topic: Social Contribution Activities of Corporations

Corporations/ organizations of all sizes can affect good change through corporate social responsibility (CSR). When businesses decide to act morally, they not only increase customer trust but also their financial line.

From a social standpoint, businesses like Netflix and Spotify provide benefits to help their workers and families. Netflix provides both birth parents and non-birth parents with 52 weeks of paid parental leave (which includes adopted children). This can be taken at any time, whether it's during the child's first year of life or at another time that works for them. Similar benefits are available through Spotify, but for only 24 weeks of paid vacation. Not only this, Netflix and Spotify support social movements including Black Lives Matter, Pride Month, and environmental sustainability through their social media channels. Netflix serves as an example of how to effectively use social media to target and appeal to niche and minority groups.

Next: Emergency medical help is essential when a calamity strikes. Pfizer has a three-pronged strategy to help in these situations: product contributions, grants, and solutions to access. Following Hurricane Matthew and the refugee crisis in Europe and the Middle East, grants have been given to nations like Haiti. Pfizer contributed $5 million through its Global Medical Grants program during the COVID-19 pandemic to advance patient identification, diagnosis, care, and management. Grants were also made available to hospitals, clinics, and medical facilities to help them monitor and treat COVID-19 patients better.

Another example is General Electric (GE). Since General Electric introduced ¡®Ecomagination¡¯ more than ten years ago, the company has focused on renewable energy with the goal of doubling down on clean technology and generating $20 billion in income from eco-friendly goods. Five individuals received $100,000 from GE as part of its "Ecomagination Challenge," to help them develop ideas such an inflatable wind turbine, an intelligent water meter, a cyber-secure network architecture, and short circuit and outage technologies.
