Korean Air started off as a small airline in Asia in 1969, with only eight planes. It is the largest airline and flag carrier of South Korea. And now as a global airline, Korean Air pursues social and environmental values with a sense of responsibility, implementing ways of social contribution.

Korean Air has led a series of community service projects domestically and globally. Since 2009, Korean Air has been donating coal briquettes to Coal Briquettes for Neighbors in Korea. Some of the briquettes are delivered by Korean Air employees as their volunteer work. Since 2008, Korean Air has been teaching English to the students of Yongyu Elementary School near Incheon International Airport each year, focusing on practical English that is useful during overseas trips. The Haneul Sarang class also provides the students with indirect experiences of overseas trips. Korean Air also promotes the Korean language in the global community by providing Korean language guide services to leading museums abroad, such as the Musée d¡¯Orsay in Paris, France, and the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, to help more visitors enjoy art. In addition, Korean Air has been building and donating libraries for elementary schools in under-served areas in China since 2010.

It is important and necessary for corporates to contribute and give back to the community they do business in. As a way of the contributing to the society, I hope the corporate continue with their research to conserve the environment while providing their service. Since air travel has great impact on the environment, airline companies should be committed to minimize those impacts. I hope they find a way to reduce their carbon footprint.
