Global Tiger Day, often called International Tiger Day, is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation, held annually on 29 July. Tiger (Panthera tigris) is an endangered species known for its superior strength and ferocity. Tigers are majestic species and the number of tigers is consistently declining due to poaching, hunting and illegal trading as well as loss of habitat. Wild tiger numbers dropped by more than 95% since the beginning of the 20th century. According to World Wildlife Fund (WWF), globally there are only 3900 tigers available in the wild. Tigers are called the “Umbrella Species” as their conservation also conserves many other species in the same habitat.
