The Cempasuchil flower (Thematic)

by Daniel Puente | 07-07-2022 05:23

The Cempasuchil flower

The Cempasuchil flower symbolizes the Day of the Dead in Mexico. The origins of this flower are that it comes from the Nahuatl "Cempohualxochitl", which means "twenty flowers" or "several flowers".

Why is it important in Mexico because of its celebrations? Especially the Day of the Dead, on November 1st and 2nd, in which the cemeteries are filled with these flowers. It is a very historical tradition and from ancient civilizations.

If you have ever seen the Disney Pixar movie Coco, it depicts a bit of this tradition. In spite of being linked to the Mexican tradition, this flower is cultivated quite a lot in China and India.
