The term "green rating" or "certification" refers to the level of environmental friendliness of real estate buildings. It is a real estate designation for REALTORS in the United States that has been accepted by the (American) National Association of Realtors (NAR). Without certification, a contractor providing green services may be self-taught, acquiring green best practices from books or magazines. Alternatively, a self-titled green contractor may not have been instructed at all and may rely only on the favorable marketing garnered by labeling a firm green. There are almost 600 green product certifications in the globe, with about 100 in use in the United States, and the numbers are growing. |
