THEMATIC REPORT FOR MAY - BIODIVERSITY "GHANA'S ROLE IN ENSURING CONTINUITY IN BIODIVERSITY"

by Justice Obiri | 22-06-2022 12:30

Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life available in one area. This different kinds of life include animals, plants, bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms, together, they make up the natural world we find ourselves in.

In our daily routines of living, we keep putting excessive pressure on our planet and this results in a creation of a loophole of imbalance in our biodiversity. In this piece, I will scrutinize a few things my country Ghana is trying to do in its quest of improving climatic conditions as well as maintaining a perfect balance in our biodiversity.

A single project initiated by the current government for which I will give a thumbs up is the Green Ghana Project which involves the planting of numerous plants around the entire country of Ghana.

Last year, when this initiative was out doored, close to 8 million trees were planted of which statistically, 70% survived the test of time and are still growing and thriving as of today. This program saw me taking part in it and personally, I planted a cocoa tree which is doing fairly well.

This year¡¯s target was to plant 20 million trees, I personally planted about 20 from seedlings which I will capture in one of my free reports in the coming days. This year¡¯s activity saw people from different factions, taking part in the planting with a common aim of making Ghana Greener. A green Ghana would bring prosperity aligned with good health and a better environment for individuals like myself to live in.

According to sources, all 20 million trees have been planted and we hope at least 80% survives this time around. A Greener Ghana is a better Ghana.
