The biodiversity i lost

by Happy Mbewe | 25-05-2022 19:48

The final dinner in hawaii left me dwindled. A bass music glamouring in the gold-walled small room. Soft drinks circulating in the circular tables made of twinkling glass. My father dressed in flowers sitting boldly in the stage. For us who who know him very well it was clear that his smiles were forced. Parting is really a sweet-sorrow. This was 20 August 1999, my father has completed his contract as an ambassador in hawaii. We are now going back home country, Malawi. The conscience of leaving Hawaii and the long time home sick left me, i can't wait to see my granny after 20 years.

Welcome back my son, you are in your home. My granny cheered. She had grown so old than how she appeared in the video calls we were making when i was in Hawaii. Your dad came from this place. This is your place, this is your identity son. She lured.

'Many years ago this village was rich in resources. We had rivers flowing throughout the year. This mountain you are seeing was wearing a green dress of all sorts of trees.' I  kept gazing on her collapsed cheeks as she struggled to mummer a word. ''In our time we couldn't sleep outside.'' ''Why'', i lured. ''Lions! my son. There were lions in the lingering in the night. That times the earth was rich before it became this poorer. ''Tell me, where is mthema these days?''. ''What is it''? i questioned. ''Hahaha you see? you mean you don't know them. Some natural soft fruits. In our times whenever we feel hungry we would go to the mountain to peak them. We used to scramble with monkeys over it.'' She explained as she produced a smile from her wrangled face.

I went back to my bed and thought how my only home has lost it birth right Biodiversity. I started to think how can i engage my self in returning back the lost Biodiversity in my community. ''I. wanna do something! I have an idea.' I WANNA WRITE TO MY FRIENDS IN HAWAII THAT I STARTING A BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION PROJECT IN MY COUNTRY- I SHALL BE SUPPORTED I BELIEVE!'
