Possible Soil Pollution

by Ida Ayu Mas Amelia Kusumaningtyas | 01-05-2022 02:15

Soil pollution is a thing that is happening, just like air and water pollution. There are also terms like light and sound pollution. It can be understood that any form of pollution would refer to the word before it. Soil pollution refers to the pollution that is happening on and within the soil.

Water pollution may have visible trash or the pollution of micro nutrition that results in the enrichment of water creating a growth spurt for certain species. This is similar with soil pollution. We can understand that landfills take up a space of land and has trash piled upon it. So dangerous chemicals from electronic devices can leak into the soil. It is dangerous as within soil, these chemicals can be carried by water to other parts of soil making it toxic.

Water is needed for life as a habitat as well as a water source to be consumed by living beings. Meanwhile air is needed to breathe freely. Then soil is needed as a space for the growth of crops and plants. If the soil was polluted and contain toxic materials, they would then prevent plants from growing or make them dead as they absorb the things within the soil and water. Soil pollution also effects water as it becomes a medium to carry the harmful material.

Water that comes down from rain would be absorbed into the soil, thus the water carrying the toxic material within the soil can go deeper into the earth. The water in the soil that collects like a reservoir, may also be used by a household as a water source. A polluted water source with toxic chemicals becomes more dangerous for people to use, especially as it would be unthinkable that water within the earth would be toxic. This is why electronic devices are not thrown into the common trash, as they can leak dangerous chemicals from the product. Pollutions happening all around us, further reinforces that wastes has to be managed more wisely.
