Weeding - Free Report

by Justice Obiri | 30-04-2022 11:01

Weeding can be simply defined as the clearing of unwanted weeds either in a garden or a farm. Weeding is very important because it is a way of preserving the environment. In Ghana, the most preferable means of weeding is by the use of a cutlass and a hoe. This is mainly because most rural settlers do not have the means to either hire machines or trucks for the weeding, or even purchase one for their usage.

This functionality however, has its own bad side effects. Some farmers and people would want to spare themselves the labor of weeding and would rather prefer to use chemicals and other foul means to clear the weeds such as burning. The use of chemicals (weedicides) is not bad but the fact is just one, which is, it does not favor the environment. One may end up removing nutrients needed for the growth of plants by using weedicides. Not only does it harm plants, some weedicides are poisonous when breathe in. Sprayers have to wear face and nose protection when distributing the weedicides to the land or the unwanted plants. This will prevent contact with their eyes and breathing in to potentially cause illness or damages to their wellbeing.

It was with much enthusiasm that I decided to take a weeding exercise to help clean my environment. It was quite difficult but I succeeded in my quest. I used a cutlass and a hole, and manually did all the weeding to my satisfaction. I believe as ambassadors, sometimes we ought to be on the field and partake in such activities to encourage those around us to do their best in saving Our Mother Earth.

The weeds from the weeding are left on the land to serve as protection from the sun and to prevent erosion in case it rains.
