Air pollution situation in the UAE

by Mukhammaddiyor Kurbonov | 31-03-2022 20:59

According to the United Nations, the air pollution is deemed to be the world¡¯s largest environmental threat to our health, being responsible for around 7 million deaths around the world every year. This means every country should bear the responsibility of reducing their and other countries¡¯ air pollutions in cooperation.

First, we need to find out the main factors of high air pollution rates of the UAE and some possible solutions with their impacts on people¡¯s lives. This would help us not to make huge rates of air-related pollution at least from our country¡¯s perspectives.

According to the UAE National Air emissions inventory project 2019, final results show that the main cause of this type of pollution come from stationary energy and transport sectors, with power energy comprising a large amount of the NOxemissions. In addition, petrol fueled passenger cars and light duty vehicles comprise most CO emissions.

There are also huge implications of these issues on people¡¯s health, according to the same inventory project 2019. For example, carbon monoxide from road transport reduces oxygen supply in the blood, harming the heart and the brain. Nitrogen Oxides worsens allergies, respiratory infections, as well as lung/heart conditions.

The UAE has high objectives to decrease its air pollution rates. According to The national Agenda of the UAE Vision 2021 aims to raise the air quality from its current level to 90 per cent by 2021. The official website of Vision 2021 shows that its current score is 91,4%, which means that the country met its objective. This indicates the country is going positive about the air pollution solutions.
