Reduce artificial lights; see the real lights!

What is light pollution?

When we think about pollution, we all get to hear about water, air, and soil pollution.  These are some of the biggest titles that we talk about.  But, did you know that light can also be pollutant?  The inappropriate use of artificial light is known as light pollution.  This can effect both humans and animals, and also our climate.  Light pollution includes: Glare, Sky glow, Light trespass and Clutter.

How does light pollution affect Humans and Animals?

Sky glow, which is brightening of the night sky over inhabited areas, is the main way that effects humans.

A science research shows that light pollution disturbs animals who live near urban areas.  There have also been changes of migration patterns of birds and turtles due to the artificial lights in cities.  As we know, insects are attracted to light, and they die because of the heat.  This also causes distress in birds in cities, as they tend to start their daily activities before the ones who live in village areas.

This also causes astrologists to miss the beauty of the night sky and it limits their ability to view celestial objects.

How can we stop this?

Like other pollutants, it is not so hard to make this right.  Minimizing light pollution is really easy; you can simply start by minimizing the light from your home and only use light when needed.  We can install motion detector and timers to street lamps, and properly shield them so that the light won¡¯t spread.  Let¡¯s follow this simple steps and restore the beauty of the night sky once again.
