by Nam Phuong Nguyen | 23-03-2022 16:05

To Lich River is a small river, flowing from Cau Giay district, through 6 districts of Hanoi and emptying into Nhue River. Legend has it that the river was named after a god named To Lich, who lived during the Tan Dynasty in Giao Chi. As an outline of the ancient Thang Long capital, To Lich river is an edge of the Thang Long water quadrangle, also a tributary of the former Red River. According to the old people, in the old days, the river water was clear, fish and shrimp grew a lot, people could take a boat on the river to admire the scenery.

According to statistics of the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment, currently, on average, the To Lich River has to receive about 150,000 m of industrial and domestic wastewater every day and night, which is poured directly into the river through more than 300 culverts. waste discharge. Besides, there is still the situation of littering the river, causing heavy environmental pollution and loss of urban beauty. Such pollution occurs not only in To Lich river, but also in many other rivers and lakes of the capital.

The pollution of the river has greatly affected the daily life of people living along the river, adversely affecting the flora and fauna in the river, in addition, water pollution has indirectly affected the health of the river. people through agricultural production in some regions. The government has come up with a number of solutions to limit pollution, but it is still not feasible.

Any solution for To Lich river?
According to Japanese experts, in order to "revive" the To Lich River, it is necessary to have a total solution to solve all problems such as: wastewater collection, thoroughly treating the source of the stench, treatment of the bottom mud layer, treatment of contaminated water in the river bed, etc.

Over the past time, the Hanoi city government has implemented many solutions but it is not feasible because they have not completely solved the root cause of the water pollution of the To Lich river. In addition, solutions also require synchronization, concentricity and synergy from three sides: managers - investors - scientists.
